Registrar of Societies officially cancels registration of Perikatan Nasional coalition under Societies Act
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 20 — The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (JPPM/RoS) has officially cancelled the registration of political coalition Parti Perikatan Nasional (“Perikatan Nasional”) effective today.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Corporate Communications Unit, the regulatory body stated that the decision was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832].
The deregistration follows a statutory notice issued to the coalition leadership on September 22, 2026, under subsection 13(2) of the same Act, which provided Perikatan Nasional an opportunity to submit written explanations and representations regarding compliance issues raised by the authorities.

Failure to provide sufficient justification
According to the RoS, Perikatan Nasional submitted its formal written response and explanation on October 12, 2026.
However, upon thorough review of the submitted documentation, the Registrar determined that the explanations failed to refute the grounds for deregistration or provide sufficient justification to maintain the coalition’s legal status.
“Following a detailed examination of the entire document and explanation submitted, the Registrar of Societies found that the reasons provided could not refute the grounds for cancellation of registration as stated in the notice, nor did they provide strong justification to retain the registration of the organization,” the statement read.
“Accordingly, the Registrar of Societies has made the decision to cancel the registration of Perikatan Nasional under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966,” the statement added.
Strict regulatory compliance
Reiterating its enforcement mandate, the RoS emphasized that all registered entities and political organizations bear full responsibility for adhering strictly to the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 and their respective party constitutions.
The agency affirmed that it will continue to execute its regulatory and enforcement functions firmly, fairly, and in accordance with the law to ensure orderly, transparent, and high-integrity governance among registered organizations nationwide.
