Public rallies behind AKPS chief Shuhaily following leaked KLIA video commentary

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Public support has surged for Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain after a commentary video published by TikTok account @wadahdaily sparked widespread discussion on institutional integrity and anti-corruption measures.

The controversy follows a leaked video showing Shuhaily confronting individuals inside a KLIA inspection room during a September 28 operation targeting illegal tout syndicates, conducted jointly by AKPS and Aviation Security (AVSEC).

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Shuhaily stated that unauthorized individuals had recorded the operation and leaked the footage, adding that he was prepared to accept any decision by the government regarding the matter.

Widespread backing for strict enforcement

Addressing the incident, the TikTok commentary by @wadahdaily emphasized that leaders and senior enforcement officers taking firm action against corruption often face severe pushback and targeted smear campaigns from affected interest groups.

The commentary drew parallels to historic leaders and anti-corruption advocates, highlighting that systemic reforms cannot rely solely on individual courage but require collective support across law enforcement, the judiciary, the media, and the public.

Community responses across social platforms have largely defended Shuhaily’s firm stance, viewing strict border enforcement as essential to preventing systemic bribery and safeguarding national entry points.

PDRM police investigation underway

AKPS has lodged a police report regarding the unauthorized recording and distribution of the footage.

Shuhaily reaffirmed AKPS’s commitment to tightening security across all Malaysian entry checkpoints, reiterating that enforcement at KLIA will remain uncompromised to prevent illicit activities and protect the nation’s borders.
